Glitz, glam, glitter and gold: all the elements fit for a queen—aka a mommy! Mother’s Day is a holiday I’m truly looking forward to. A specially designated occasion for my family to shower me with gifts, hugs and kisses? Of course! Maybe I will be granted the gift of sleeping in or being served breakfast in bed? (Let’s hope my husband reads this post…hint, hint.)
In all seriousness, though, as a proud, hard-working mom, I know how important it is to give gratitude to the women who are our caregivers, mentors and friends, and who have helped shape who we are. So I decided to put together a brunch to celebrate some of my favorite moms, featuring a few of my favorite things: Champagne and espresso, true mom essentials!
My color scheme is gold and black, which was inspired by the special collection of china I was bestowed that belonged to my paternal grandma (whom we called “Grandma Ruth”). I wanted to pay homage to my maternal grandmother (whom we called “Mor-Mor,” mother’s mother in Norwegian) as well, so I included her glasses and coordinating pitcher. As an adult with my own home, I feel that I finally have a true appreciation for these elements of family history. And what better day to honor both of my grandmas with these beautiful pieces setting the scene?
I found these three vases at Home Goods, which echo the warm bronze accents in the china and the glasses, and so this trio became the perfect centerpiece for my table. Then I added simple flowering branches and touches of baby’s breath I picked up at the supermarket—just a few little touches can go a long way.
I recently purchased a Nespresso machine, and it’s truly life-changing. I enjoy the full flavor this coffee brings and the quick convenience of the brew. Now all that’s left is ordering the delicious food so I can allow myself to be pampered just a bit, too.
Morning light, a few bubbles, cozy caffé, and delicious baby snuggles—enjoy every koselig moment. I hope you shower the mothers and mentors in your life with lots of love this year.
Tusen takk, thousand thanks, and thank you for coming over!
